I Keep Moving

My duty is done and they did it »

Can I please jump back and kiss myself? My students came through and brought the love. The birds are flying. The people are rising. The past is no longer the future. The sun and moon are one…and the tree rises. We are told no trespassing…but we rise regardless of the everyday stress. In todays age…I’m glad love still lights up the canvas. Summer 08…my kids came through. I want to give a shout out to my students! What’s up to Karla, Luis, Joe, Sarah, Jackie, Delilah, Manuel, James, Peter, Daniel, Seth, Nathan, Tyler, Tina, Beverly and Jesus. I’m glad to have met all of you guys…and I wish you people the best in the future! Peace outdscn0138.jpg

Memorial day Mint session »

I just got back from the Mint club. Indeed it was a nice night. The jazz session was fresh and the paint session was on point. I don’t know what else to say about the evening. Good music, good vibes and good people. The Groove pocket (Monday nights) always comes correct. I didn’t have time to unload my tool box…so the color palette was the the same from last night. I was blessed to have some people really dig the style. This has become my second home on Mondays….peace outdscn2141.jpgdscn2143.jpg dscn2150.jpg

Steamers last night and something tonight at the mint. »

Greetings people. Last night I was in Fullerton painting at the Steamers jazz cafe.My friend Kevin Kanner is doing a weekly show there on Sunday nights called the “Saturn sessions”. He invited me to come along for the jazz ride. When I showed up it was calm and cool. I brought a couple of colors in the warm spectrum… based the canvas and started doing my thing. As the night got on the way more people showed up as Kevin’s set took over for the rest of the night. I kinda got ahead of myself and busted a majority of this stuff in the first hour. for the next hour or so I played around a bit and ended up with what you see at the bottom. Tonight I will be at the Mint Club yet again for another live paint session. Please stop on by and say hello. Happy Memorial day dscn2124.jpg dscn0137.jpg

skipped a beat but the pulse is still the same »

So here is an between pic of what was done about 2 weeks ago. Good formation. The main idea is starting to manifest.dscn0131.jpgAnd this is from last week. Look at the rendering starting to take shape. The ground has been painted over but there is going to be painting on top of that. Next week we’ll more detail around the outer edges of the canvas. A lot of them think they are finished…but I point out to them that the sun isn’t rendered properly…and the people still need more “pop”….check it out next weekdscn0132.jpg

What's been going on? »

I’m sorry for not posting for the past 2 weeks. I’ve been in limbo moving from my old place to my new abode in Pasadena. I haven’t been able to paint because I have been moving and building my studio up until now. I’ve expanded my new studio into a dedicated room. For some of you who don’t know…my art space was also my sleeping space. It was definitely cramping my will to live and I’m glad that I changed my situation. The past couple of weeks have been nothing but commutes to Home Depot and Osh and working on the mural with the kids.
For the studio I laid down 3/4″ finished wood on the carpet and sealed the spaces with cloth tape. I know it doesn’t have the professional touch but it will do the job of allowing me to get messy! I’ve been wantingto let loose but my old room was so cramped that I couldn’t do it. The coolest thing for the studio is the mobile paint center. I’ll be able to store all my paints on the bottom and keep my important tools close. This is important to me as I’ve brought a couple of standing easels (and one desktop easel) into the picture. Now I can move between projects without flinching. The room also has it’s own A/C…it gets really hot during the day so this thing is a must! All of this is coming at a key time because I’m gearing up for my solo show in September.
Here are some pics of my new creative nest. It looks very empty but I know I will fill up the shelves, walls, table and floors with lots of things. Wish me good luck people!

Here’s the entrance to my studio dscn0134.jpg

Cinco de Mint »

Im posting this as if I did it on the 6th of May. I know it’s the 15th but we have to pretend that I’m always on time with this stuff. Just to remind you I’ve finally settled into my new place. There’s still some extra furniture but that can wait.
The jazz session at the Mint Club was great. There was a burlesque show in the early evening so I scheduled my day to check it out in time. I also found out that I like a white russian….If you ever seen the Big Lebowski you’ll know that drink was ordered on the regular. It just so happens that the drink is titled “El duderino”…If you don’t know why…you need to see the movie.
Anyways! Kevin Kanner did a great job as always. The painting I did actually had a jazz theme.  I say actually because I usually go off on some tangent that doesn’t even make sense to me. well at the end of the night an appreciator was cool enough to take it off my hands. I’m usually there every other weekend so if you feel like seeing me up in the mix come on through.

Coachella 08 »

It was the first weekend of  may wasn’t it? That’s what the time stamp on the pics tell me. I did some artwork for the people at Global Inheritance. I’ve been working with these people for the past 4 years and I’m sure glad to be a part of there mission. At Coachella, there are no outlets for electricity. The people at GI made a stationary bike that generated electricity. They wanted me to paint it so I did what I could hours before it was packed and shipped to Coachella.img_0913.jpgimg_0912.jpg
I forgot about this project I did for them in September 2007 @ Atlanta. You can read about it here
