here we go »
After 2 weeks of thinking about what we were going to do we finally came up with a concept. I tell you… It’s hard to pull ideas from these kids. I’ve have taken the roll of visual maestro. When they would tell me their thoughts I would relay them back in visual form. I would then ask them if this is something that they were thinking of? I was very proud of their participation as it has been the most I have seen from them. We have chosen a couple of elements for mural: The sun ( symbol of enlightenment), the tree (symbol of growth), and the people rising from their challenges. These are just the basics for right now. by the end of this week we will have a more concrete understanding of the vision. There was a monkey wrench that I’m not happy about. It seems that the school overlooked the permission needed to paint on the school grounds. This isn’t a big problem… but the whole point of having a mural is for it to be fixated in the open. There is a small possibility that this still might happen but I must prepare for the “canvas” alternative. I’m sure the kids will not be cool with this….but the show must go on. Everything was done on the board so that all the students could see the idea.

Jack D and the Mint club »
The people at the Mint Club have asked me to paint a 36″ Jack Daniels for a contest amongst other bars in LA. I wish I could spend more time on this but I only had half a day to put this together over the weekend. I’m told that if this makes the cut that It’ll be good news for everyone. If you are asking why is he green? Well it’s the Mint club!

During these past 2 months I have had the opportunity to work with kids not only here in the San Gabriel Valley but also in Eugene Oregon. A friend of mine has been working with the school district for a long time and has put together an event called, RED day. It stands for Respect Everybodies Differences. The day is packed with food, music, art, dance and poetry. My part was to give an intro to who I was and paint afterwards. There were three sessions in the day so I had painted on three canvas’s. I’m waiting for the pics to arrive. I’m such a horrible documenter that this is the only pic I have. This was my POV when I was painting.
